Edo Agenda lets you create tasks and activities in many different ways and this could seems complicated and confusing at the beginning.

Here's a simple guide to make it clear what's the idea behind the various ways you can organize your tasks.

Our service provides 4 places for a task:

  • Day pages
  • To-do lists
  • projects
  • floating tasks

Day pages

When you add a task to a day page it means you decided to complete it during that specific day. You can schedule it and time box it setting a start and an end time for it. If some tasks are left behing in a busy day you may decide to reschedule them (drag & drop them in a different day or edit the date they is assigned to using the editing popup) or let the Automatically move unfinished tasks feature do it for you.

To-do lists

To-do lists are a simple way to collect related tasks, I use them for groceries lists and to remember the books I want to buy, they work great for any homogeneous group of activities. Tasks added to a to-do list can be scheduled by assigning them to a day (check out the how-to), the tasks will remain in the to-do list so that you can track your progress.

Projects

Projects are the most complete types of document you can create on Edo Agenda, they allows you to track information and activities at the same time, when you add a task in a project you know you're doing it for a bigger goal, a very specific one, both Notes and To-do lists can be referenced inside a project (check out the how-to) so you can have the necessary expressiveness and organization, your fantasy is the limit.

Floating Tasks

Last but not least, floating tasks section is the place for those ideas that occur to you in a variety of situation and you haven't a plan for turning them into actions, like when you "have to buy a new headset",  you note this task in the floating tasks section.  Floating tasks have no assigned due date and do not belong to any larger goal or topic you already organized in a project or in a to-do list.

When you finally decide to schedule these tasks it is as simple as assign them to a day (with drag & drop or by editing the date using the editing popup), now they will be moved to the corresponding day page.

So... how I choose the right place then?

Simple question, straightforward answer (hopefully):

Is this task related to a specific topic or goal?

If the answer is yes: Add it to the corresponding to-do list or project.

I already have a due date for this task?

If the answer is yes: Add it or assign it to that specific day.

If the answer is no: Add it to the floating tasks :)
